Welcome to Hops Social (“Hops Social,” “Hops,” “we,” “us,” “our”). Our website address is: https://hops.app. Hops Social improves the nightlife experience by showing you the events and drink specials in your area. We also have other features like friend tracking and bar hopping to help you coordinate nights out and keep your friend groups safe.

The Hops Service collectively includes all of the services we provide through our website, social media account, and mobile application. Remember that your use of the Hops Service is at all times subject to the Terms of Use (which can be found at https://hops.app/terms-of-use), which includes this Policy.

This Privacy Policy serves to explain how we and some of the companies we work with collect, use, share and protect information in relation to our mobile services, web site, and any software provided on or in connection with the Hops Service.

Information we Collect

Information You Provide to Us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us such as name, email address, phone number, security data, payment information, and social media login data.

  • Your username, password and e-mail address when you register for a Hops account.
  • Profile information that you provide for your user profile (e.g., first and last name, username, picture, phone number). This information allows us to help you or others be “found” on Hops.
  • User Content (e.g., messages, comments, and other materials) that you post to the Hops Service.
  • Communications between you and Hops. For example, we may send you Hops Service-related emails (e.g., account verification, changes/updates to features of the Hops Service, technical and security notices). Note that you may not opt out of Hops Service-related e-mails.

Information collected through our Apps

In Short: We may collect information regarding your geo-location, mobile device, push notifications, and Facebook permissions when you use our apps.

If you use our Apps, we may also collect the following information:

  • Geo-Location Information. We may request access or permission to and track location-based information from your mobile device, either continuously or while you are using our mobile application, to provide location-based services. If you wish to change our access or permissions, you may do so in your device’s settings.
  • Mobile Device Access. We may request access or permission to certain features from your mobile device, including your mobile device’s contacts, social media accounts, storage, camera, location services, notifications, and other features. If you wish to change our access or permissions, you may do so in your device’s settings.
  • Mobile Device Data. We may automatically collect device information (such as your mobile device ID, model and manufacturer), operating system, version information and IP address.
  • Push Notifications. We may request to send you push notifications regarding your account or the mobile application. If you wish to opt-out from receiving these types of communications, you may turn them off in your device’s settings.
  • Facebook Permissions. We by default access to your Facebook basic account information, including your name, email, and profile picture URL, as well as other information that you choose to make public. We may also request access to other permissions related to your account, such as friends, gender, age, birthday, checkins, and likes, and you may choose to grant or deny us access to each permission. Cookies

When you visit the Hops Service, we may use cookies and similar technologies like pixels, web beacons, and local storage to collect information about how you use Hops and provide features to you.

We may ask advertisers or other partners to serve ads or services to your devices, which may use cookies or similar technologies placed by us or the third party.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use or navigate the Hops Service. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use the Hops Service and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services or Apps, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Why we use your Information

In Short: We process your information for purposes based on legitimate business interests, the fulfillment of our contract with you, compliance with our legal obligations, and/or your consent.

We use personal information collected via the Hops Services for a variety of business purposes described below. We process your personal information for these purposes in reliance on our legitimate business interests, in order to enter into or perform a contract with you, with your consent, and/or for compliance with our legal obligations. We indicate the specific processing grounds we rely on next to each purpose listed below.

  • help you quickly access bars other venues in your area
  • remember information so you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you use the Hops Service
  • provide personalized content and information to you and others, which could include online ads or other forms of marketing
  • provide, improve, test, and monitor the effectiveness of the Hops Service
  • develop and test new products and features
  • monitor metrics such as total number of visitors, traffic, and demographic patterns
  • diagnose or fix technology problems
  • automatically update the Hops application on your device
  • Hops or Bars and other Venues may run contests, special offers or other events or activities (“Events”) on the Hops Service. If you do not want to participate in an Event, do not use the particular Metadata (i.e. hashtag or geotag) associated with that Event.
  • respond to user inquiries/offer support to users
  • conduct data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns and to evaluate and improve the Hops Service, products, marketing and your experience. We will not use identifiable personal information without your consent.

Who we share your information with

In Short: We only share information with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services, to protect your rights, or to fulfill business obligations.

We may process or share data based on the following legal basis:

How We Handle Your Social Logins

In Short: If you choose to register or log in to our services using a social media account, we may have access to certain information about you.

Our Services or Apps offer you the ability to register and login using your third party social media account details (like your Facebook or Twitter logins). Where you choose to do this, we will receive certain profile information about you from your social media provider. The profile Information we receive may vary depending on the social media provider concerned, but will often include your name, e-mail address, friends list, profile picture as well as other information you choose to make public. If you login using Facebook, we may also request access to other permissions related to your account, such as friends, check-ins, and likes, and you may choose to grant or deny us access to each individual permission.
We will use the information we receive only for the purposes that are described in this privacy policy or that are otherwise made clear to you on the Services or Apps . Please note that we do not control, and are not responsible for, other uses of your personal information by your third party social media provider. We recommend that you review their privacy policy to understand how they collect, use and share your personal information, and how you can set your privacy preferences on their sites and apps.

Our Stance on Third-Party Websites

In Short: We are not responsible for the safety of any information that you share with third-party providers who advertise, but are not affiliated with, our websites.

The Services or Apps may contain advertisements from third parties that are not affiliated with us and which may link to other websites, online services or mobile applications. We cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of data you provide to any third parties. Any data collected by third parties is not covered by this privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of any third parties, including other websites, services or applications that may be linked to or from the Services or Apps . You should review the policies of such third parties and contact them directly to respond to your questions.

Storing Your Information

Storage and Processing:

  • Your information collected through the Service may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Hops, its Affiliates or Service Providers maintain facilities.
  • Hops, its Affiliates, or Service Providers may transfer information that we collect about you, including personal information across borders and from your country or jurisdiction to other countries or jurisdictions around the world. If you are located in the European Union or other regions with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, please note that we may transfer information, including personal information, to a country and jurisdiction that does not have the same data protection laws as your jurisdiction.
  • By registering for and using the Service you consent to the transfer of information to the U.S. or to any other country in which Hops, its Affiliates or Service Providers maintain facilities and the use and disclosure of information about you as described in this Privacy Policy.
  • We use commercially reasonable safeguards to help keep the information collected through the Service secure and take reasonable steps (such as requesting a unique password) to verify your identity before granting you access to your account. However, Hops cannot ensure the security of any information you transmit to Hops or guarantee that information on the Service may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.
  • Please do your part to help us. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your unique password and account information, and for controlling access to emails between you and Hops, at all times. Your privacy settings may also be affected by changes the social media services you connect to Hops make to their services. We are not responsible for the functionality, privacy, or security measures of any other organization.

What rights you have over your data

Your account information and profile/privacy settings:

  • Update your account at any time by logging in and changing your profile settings.
  • Unsubscribe from email communications from us by clicking on the “unsubscribe link” provided in such communications. As noted above, you may not opt out of Service-related communications (e.g., account verification, purchase and billing confirmations and reminders, changes/updates to features of the Service, technical and security notices).
  • Privacy settings may be adjusted in the Profile Settings and Edit User Settings within the Hops mobile application

How long we keep your User Content:

  • Following termination or deactivation of your account, Hops Social, its Affiliates, or its Service Providers may retain information (including your profile information) content you provide to us for a commercially reasonable time for backup, archival, and/or audit purposes.
  • To Delete your Account, please visit your Profile Settings within the Hops mobile application

Changes to this Policy

In Short: We will update this policy as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Revised” date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this privacy policy frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
